52 Walker is a David Zwirner gallery space programmed and led by Senior Director Ebony L. Haynes. The gallery takes its name from its location at 52 Walker Street in Tribeca, and occupies the first and lower floors of the five-story landmark building. Departing from the traditional commercial gallery format, 52 Walker's exhibition schedule resembles that of a kunsthalle with longer presentation timelines allowing visitors to engage with the works and show programming for the duration of a season. Deviating from the programming approach at David Zwirner's other locations, Haynes’s personal curatorial practice, which focuses on conceptual and research-based artists from a range of backgrounds and stages in their careers, is a trademark of 52 Walker. An edition of Clarion, the gallery’s publication, accompanies each exhibition, highlighting scholarship and research on the exhibiting artists. In April 2022, the gallery founded the 52 Walker Library which comprises both circulating books, which can be checked out for 4 weeks at a time, and non-circulating reference books, which can be consulted on-site. A 52 Walker Library card is required to check out publications and be completed onsite or by emailing [email protected].
